Description - Mupirocin is in the carboxylic acid class of medications. Mupirocin works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. Mupirocin apparently exerts its antimicrobial activity by reversibly inhibiting isoleucyl-transfer RNA, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein and RNA synthesis.
Indications & Usage - Mupirocin is used as a topical treatment for bacterial skin infections which are typically due to infection by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes. It is also useful in the treatment of superficial methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections.
Dosage & administration - As directed by physician.
